 Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION TO FLEXIn this chapter, I will talke about the role of Flex in building web applications. I will explaine the role of MXML and ActionScript 3.0 in the Flex framework, and provide an overview of some of the ActionScript 3.0 changes. Chapter 2 WORKING WITH ACTIONSCRIPT 3.0 IN FLEX 3 In this chapter, I will showe you the different ways to work with ActionScript in a Flex application. I will set up an example and showed you several different ways to add functionality with ActionScript. Chapter 3 CREATING CUSTOM COMPONENTS - In this chapter, I will introduce you to creating custom Flex components. I will showe you how to build components using both MXML and ActionScript, and you will see how to achieve tasks like setting property values, calling methods, and dispatching custom events. Chapter 4 INTERACTING WITH USERS - This chapter will covere the most common ways applications can interact with their users. We will starte by looking at how to display simple alerts in an application. Chapter 5 INTERACTING WITH THE WEB BROWSER - In this chapter, I want to show you how you can allow Flex applications to interact with a web browser. Chapter 6 WORKING WITH DATA IN FLEX APPLICATIONS - In this chapter, I want to introduce the topic of working with data in Flex applications. You’ll see the different ways to load external content in Flex and look at some of the tools that specifically help out with data-driven applications. Chapter 7 INTRODUCTION TO XML - In this chapter, I will introduce you to the key concepts that you’ll need for understanding XML and, in particular, MXML. I will define XML and gave you a brief history. Remember, XML is a metalanguage instead of a language in its own right. Chapter 8 USING XML IN FLEX BUILDER - In this chapter, we will see how to include XML content within a Flex application. We will starte by understanding the changes to the XML class introduced with ActionScript 3.0. Chapter 9 FLEX DATA-DRIVEN CONTROLS - In this chapter, we will looke at three of the data-driven controls available within the Flex framework: the Repeater, the TileList, and the DataGrid. Chapter 10 DEBUGGING FLEX APPLICATIONS - In this chapter, I want to look at the debugging tools that are available to help out when things go wrong in a Flex application. Chapter 11 XML CASE STUDY - In this chapter, we will worke through an XML case study in which we populated a simple photo gallery application from an external file. Chapter 12 COLDFUSION PROJECT - In this chapter, we’ll look at a simple ColdFusion application. We’ll create a message board that stores its content in an Access database. Chapter 13 ASP.NET CASE STUDY - In this chapter, we’ll look at a Flex application that uses ASP.NET to interact with an Access database. Chapter 14 PHP CASE STUDY - In this chapter, we’ll work through an application with a PHP 5 back end and MySQL database, and a SWF interface. Chapter 15 INTRODUCTION TO LIVECYCLE DATA SERVICES - In this Chapter, we will look at the different services involved in LCDS. Chapter 16 LIVECYCLE DATA SERVICES CASE STUDY - In this Chapter, we will build a fully managed and scalable application using the LiveCycle Data Services Data Management Services.
