This book covers a lot of ground. It presents the essentials of several complex fields — computer graphics, signal processing, typesetting, and color handling — in a compact form. I concentrate on what you need to know to use the features in the 2D API. Although you'll get a good conceptual background in computer graphics, this is a very practical book: it includes a working example for almost every concept.
Java 2D was designed so that simple operations are simple and complex operations are feasible. |

This book, Algorithms in Java, Third Edition, Parts 1-4, contains 16 chapters grouped into four major parts: fundamentals, data structures, sorting, and searching. The descriptions here are intended to give readers an understanding of the basic properties of as broad a range of fundamental algorithms as possible. The algorithms described here have found widespread use for years, and represent an essential body of knowledge for both the practicing programmer and the computer-science student. The second volume is devoted to graph algorithms, and the third consists of four additional parts that cover strings, geometry, and advanced topics. My primary goal in developing these books |

Part 1: Hibernate in a Hurry Our first goal is to get up to speed with Hibernate as quickly as possible. Most of the chapters in this part are updated versions of content from Hibernate: A Developer's Notebook (O'Reilly), reflecting the major changes that came about with Hibernate 3. The sample code now works with the latest versions of the tools we rely on to provide an easy yet realistic environment for working with Hibernate. There is also a new chapter covering the ability to use Java 5 annotations, rather than XML mapping files, to configure Hibernate mappings.

For a long time, there has been a need for a practical, down-to-earth developers book for the Java Cryptography Extension. I am very happy to see there is now a book that can answer many of the technical questions that developers, managers, and researchers have about such a critical topic. For many Java developers and software engineers, cryptography is an "on-demand" programming exercise, where cryptographic concepts are shelved until the next project requires renewed focus. But considerations for cryptography must be made early on in the design process and its imperative that developers know what kinds of solutions exist.
