 Chapter 1 Introduction to IPTV - The purpose of this introductory chapter is to acquaint the reader with the technology the book will focus on, beginning with a definition of the technology.Chapter 2 Market Drivers and Developing IPTV Infrastructure - In this chapter we will probe that reasoning a bit further as well as expand on our examination of market drivers for different types of IPTV applications. Chapter 3 Television Concepts - An understanding of IPTV depends on knowledge of basic television concepts and the Internet Protocol (IP) used to transport television as a sequence of packetized frames. In this chapter we turn our attention to obtaining an understanding of television concepts. Chapter 4 The TCP/IP Protocol Suite and IPTV - The purpose of this chapter is twofold. First, we will review the major characteristics of the TCP/IP protocol suite. Once this is accomplished, we will use our knowledge of the protocol suite to obtain an understanding of the manner by which video can be transported in a TCP/IP environment. Chapter 5 Last Mile Solutions - This chapter will examine home networking methods that can be used to distribute IPTV within a residence. Chapter 6 Hardware Components - In this chapter we will probe deeper into IPTV hardware components, examining their functionality in an IPTV environment. Chapter 7 Software Solutions - In this chapter we will turn our attention to software in the form of media players that enable both corporate and individual users to view a variety of video data streams retrieved from the Internet. Chapter 8 Internet Television - We will turn our attention to Internet television, examining how we can view television broadcasts on our PC from stations located around the world.
